Spirituality & the Arts

In neither sacrament nor poem are we given answers or explanations; rather, we are immersed in their mystery.

--John Savant, poet

We see ALL of art as an entrance into mystery. We offer many opportunities to enter the mystery through artistic expression. Children and adults alike are invited to find their way into Biblical stories, church tradition, and Christian symbols through visual art, poetry, writing, music, and the preparation and giving of sermons.

Redeemer friends may create Stations of the Cross, give Advent and Lenten reflections, create spaces for meditation, knit, work on quilts, or participate in Redeemer’s annual art camp for children. We explore the mystery of God’s presence in ways that have no answers or explanations. After all, the life of faith is never about “mastery,” but about “mystery.” What better way to enter the mystery than by messing around with color and word and melody and clay and cloth? Isn’t that what God did in the beginning?
