Serving with Redeemer
Redeemer members serve the wider community in many ways, and we invite others to join us in these ministries or new ones! Contact the people listed to get involved, and let Pastor Rebecca or a council member know if you have an idea for something new.
Food pantry: We have a closet of canned goods at Redeemer so we can give a bag to people who call or stop by church when the office is open. The closet is entirely stocked by Redeemer members and always needs more contributions! Contact church secretary Nancy Leibfarth for more info.
We help feed people in partnership with other organizations:
Shelter Shiners: On the 3rd Thursday of the month at 4:30, Redeemer members bring, prepare, and serve dinner at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter. Sign up at church or contact Nancy Leibfarth.
Sunday Sunnies: A group from Redeemer brings, prepares, and serves lunch at Columbia Street Baptist Church on the first Sunday of every other month (February, April, June, August, October, December). Contact Judy and Harry Madson or Ann and Neal Pratt.
Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen: On the 3rd Wednesday of the month, Redeemer members help cook or bake and serve at the Salvation Army. Contact Gladys Merritt.
Monthly "Gathering In" contributions: Each month special contributions are designated for a specific ministry or organization, locally, nationally, or globally. Check the bulletin board or call the office for the current month's offering recipients.
Helping Hands: These are the wonderful and indispensable "behind the scenes" people who provide coffee hour hospitality every Sunday morning. They always need new "hands"!
Sunshine Service: On the third Sunday of each month at 1 p.m., Redeemer members lead and participate in a worship service geared toward people with disabilities. The more people who come, the merrier and more joyful the worship!
Fiber Arts: In addition to working on their own projects, they do all kinds of service projects for local organizations as well.
